Tammy Abraham Makes AS Roma Transfer Decision With Chelsea Having £67m Buyback Clause
“I’ve come here and there’s a new me; I’m me again.”
The words of Tammy Abraham, when speaking to The Athletic earlier in the year. The 24-year-old is a rejuvenated version of himself since making the switch from Chelsea to AS Roma more than 12 months ago.
Costing Roma £36million, some questioned whether Abraham was worth the fee after being frozen out by former Blues head coach Thomas Tuchel. Unsurprisingly to some, Abraham has answered all of his critics in emphatic style.
In his debut season in Italy, Abraham scored 27 goals in 53 games in all competitions. Jose Mourinho helped the hungry monster living inside Abraham. Chelsea reportedly have a £67m buyback clause inserted in Abraham’s contract that will become active next summer.
Some new information from Corriere dello Sport claims the former Blues attacker wants to return to the Premier League ‘as soon as possible’.
“The information from Italy rather contradicts what he told the same news outlet over the summer. He said:”The first day I arrived at Roma, I felt at home. It was Tuchel who didn’t fancy Abraham during his time at Chelsea.
The lack of game-time and trust from the German head coach was a key part of him making the brave decision to move to a new country and adapt to a different way of living out there.
Graham Potter could indeed be interested in the English striker next summer, but for almost double the price Chelsea sold him for, there would need to be some serious consideration for a return to Stamford Bridge to be realised.
