Chelsea News And Transfers LIVE: Declan Rice Bid, Jude Bellingham Race, Rafael Leao Contract
Hello and welcome to today’s Chelsea live blog on Wednesday, September 28.
This week marks a return to action for the Blues, following an international break where several stars were jetting away with their nations.
The side make the short trip to face Crystal Palace as they eye a first win under new boss Graham Potter, who will manage his first Premier League game in charge of the side.
The head coach has had a few first-team players to work with during the break, but he will be able to get back to work with a bigger squad as they all return to Cobham.
“You could tell straight away from stepping in on day one that he’s such a big person to be around,” he said, as quoted by Football Daily.
“In terms of the team, everyone respects him for what he does on and off the pitch. You could tell his levels were the highest they could be. I understand why Chelsea have gone for him.”
He said: “It’s life, it’s football. If a player gets an offer from a team that’s also in the Champions League and Europe, they’re going to think about it. Obviously Graham took his opportunity to take it, so I can’t really say anything about that. I just wish him well.”

Chelsea have taken a step closer towards appointing a sporting director as Todd Boehly looks to restructure the club’s backroom makeup.
The American billionaire is in the market for a transfer specialist to join the Blues’ scouting team and Bayer Leverkusen boss Tim Steidten looks poised to land the role at Stamford Bridge after moves for RB Salzburg chief Christoph Freund and Paris Saint-Germain advisor Luis Campos failed to materialise.
Earlier this month, The Athletic stated that Steidten was shortlisted by the west Londoners as a candidate for the sporting director role.
Now, according to The Guardian, Chelsea are planning further talks with the 43-year-old. Before taking the head coach role at the Bundesliga outfit this summer, Steidten was head of scouting at the BayArena.
Chelsea icon Ramires has announced he has retired from professional football in a post on Instagram. Chelsea are planning to try to sign at least one young, top-class midfielder next summer, with Declan Rice is still on the club’s radar, as per The Telegraph.
Chelsea have already attempted to make inroads into the Jude Bellingham camp. Todd Boehly believes they still have enough time to make a serious play despite Real Madrid and Liverpool being ahead in the race.

I have a fresh start now, and I’m excited to play for the new manager. Just looking forward to it. I just have to prove myself, as everyone does, and as I’ve done before.”
According to Portuguese newspaper Record, as quoted by Football Italia, AC Milan are in direct communication with Sporting CP ‘to help reduce’ the €20m Rafael Leao owes his former club. The report states that directors Paolo Maldini and Frederico Varandas have met twice in recent months to resolve the ongoing issue.
The Italian giants are eager to help their player clear his debt in a bid that it could persuade Leao to pen a new deal at the club. The Blues are said to still be monitoring the winger’s situation at the San Siro as talks over a new deal with the Rossoneri continue.
According to Corriere dello Sport, as quoted by Milan News, Leao wants in the region of £118,000-per-week and for the Italian giants to contribute towards the compensation fee he was ordered to pay former club Sporting Lisbon.
As per The Telegraph, Chelsea are trying to jump up the Bellingham queue – Boehly trying to muscle in on Madrid and Liverpool. Former Chelsea and Manchester United transfer target Benjamin Sesko went viral on social media after scoring a stunning volley in the final game of the international break.
The 19-year-old’s spectacular effort earned his country a crucial point, with Slovenia narrowly evading relegation from the UEFA Nations League League B. Sesko, who was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in the summer, channeled his inner Marco van Basten and Robin van Persie with a first-time volley that found the top-right corner.
A long pass looped over and across the striker’s midriff before arrowing the ball over Sweden goalkeeper Robin Olsen. Videos of Sesko’s sensational goal flooded all forms of social media as fans across the globe came together to appreciate the technical excellence required to pull off such an effort.
The teenage sensation’s performance was not a fluke but instead one of many which courted the interest of Europe’s biggest clubs. According to Fabrizio Romano in August, Chelsea had a meeting with Sesko’s agent over a potential move to Stamford Bridge.
Gallagher makes a statement with the help of a Chelsea summer target. Conor Gallagher’s start to life at Chelsea in 2022/23 has been nothing short of rough. It’s brilliant to see a massive smile painted across his face after he netted in England Under 21’s latest fixture against Germany.
The former Crystal Palace loanee was advancing when he met Anthony Gordon’s pass across the box to tap in. Now former manager Thomas Tuchel opted to play his number 23 in a deep-lying pivot alongside the likes of Jorginho and others.
Perhaps a new start under Graham Potter, who may optimise his qualities in a different way to his predecessor Tuchel, could be the key to unlocking the Crystal Palace version of the Under 21’s midfielder. Chelsea are continuing their search for a sporting director, having struggled to add a new face in for Todd Boehly’s regime.
It appears as though talks are being held over an appointment, with Graham Potter expected to play a part in working with them. Chelsea head physio Thierry Laurent has been dismissed from Chelsea, according to reports. Laurent was at the club for 17-years, having joined back in 2005, while a replacement is currently being sought after.
